The Central Works Rolling World Premiere of Winter by Julie Jensen and directed by Gary Graves, has been extended until August 20. The central theme of the play explores the polarizing topic of whether or not one has the right to die on their own terms. Bay Area Musicals! closes its second season with their first family friendly show, the Broadway hit musical, Seussical the Musical. Characters are incorporated from Dr. Seuss’s Horton Hatches the Egg, Horton Hears A Who!,1958’s Miss Gertrude McFuzz and The Cat in the Hat. The new play Vignettes on Love playing at the Potrero Stage incorporates nine short music videos filmed by Dances with Light and local filmmakers, and music curated by Noise Pop. It’s an interesting time to bring Stephen Sondheim’s musical, Assassins, to the stage. A play about people who decided it’s their life’s purpose to kill a president. It took 14 years for the show to be received on Broadway, and went on to win 5 Tony Awards. Still, theatres have often shied away from producing the show with its provocative topic, scenes with gun pointing at the audience and “accidental” stage shootings (blanks, of course) that will leave some audience members rattled.
