San Diego Latino Film Festival Celebrates 20 Years!

On February 21, 2013 the San Diego Latino Film Festival held a media kick-off party at Gang Kitchen located downtown at 345 6th Avenue. Guests enjoyed live music, appetizers and a free drink. Tijuana Mayor, Carlos Bustamante Anchondo was in attendance to help kick off the 20th anniversary celebration.

In addition to new works, SDLFF will be bringing back their list of the top 10 groundbreaking and influential films from the past two decades. Relive your favorites on the big screen. The films included are Nostalgia de la Luz (Chile), Cronos (Mexico), Fresa y Chocolate (Cuba), Desperado (Mexico), Abre los Ojos (Spain), Central do Brasil (Brazil), Todo Sobre Mi Madre (Spain), Amores Perros (Mexico), Y Tú Mamá También (Mexico), and Ciudade de Deus (Brazil).

Opening night is March 7 and provides several choices for movie goers including “Filly Brown,” about “Majo Tonorio”, a.k.a. Filly Brown, a raw, young Los Angeles hip-hop artist who spits from the heart and faces daunting choices when a sleazy record producer offers her a crack at rap stardom. “Violeta went to Heaven,” a portrait of famed Chilean singer, folklorist and multifaceted artist Violeta Parra (Francisca Gavilán) filled with her musical work, her memories, her love, issues with classism, and her personal struggles.

Tickets are also available to mix and mingle at the opening night party scheduled at 9 p.m. at Cafe Sevilla at 353 Fifth Ave. in the Gaslamp Quarter. Guests will enjoy appetizers, one hour hosted SANGRIA (10:00-11pm), live music by TODO MUNDO and DJ.  FREE transportation from the movie theater to Cafe Sevilla will be provided by FIVE STAR TOURS.
